We humans often have delusions about what a perfect life is. It’s easy to believe that a perfect life is one with lots of wealth and fame but we often see rich, famous people who are miserable. The idea of perfection may be our first problem. What if there’s no such thing when it comes to human beings? Perhaps we are all flawed but our imperfections are what make us unique.
As we meditate on these concepts, we have to realize that each of us has the opportunity to take our flaws and turn them into strengths. We can make ourselves into whatever we like. But it requires some work.
How to begin the work
The first step is to understand exactly who we are at our core. We must identify both our strengths and weaknesses. Once we do that, we can start to use those strengths to transform the weaknesses into useful tools and resources. As we move along life’s road, we become better at doing this. We learn coping skills. We learn the art of forgiveness. We find that the journey is indeed more important than the destination.
Changing yourself
During this journey, we cannot be afraid of change. It’s essential. While some changes can be negative, if our heart and our motives are right, then overall the changes will be good. They may not always feel good; to change is to grow and growth can be painful. At the end of the journey, we are transformed into a better version of ourselves and that’s the true goal here.
